Alyssa Weninger

I completed my undergraduate training at UNC Chapel Hill where I received a BS in neuroscience and BSPH in nutrition science. Here, I worked with Dr. Ian Carroll to investigate microbiota-directed nutritional supplements and their effects on the metabolic adaptations that occur during severe acute malnutrition. These experiences made me interested in brain-body interactions which sparked my interest in neuroimmunology. I am currently a PhD student in the Program in Neuroscience at Harvard Medical School and am pursuing a co-mentorship between Beth Stevens and Isaac Chiu. I am interested in understanding the neuroimmune mechanisms underlying post-infectious neurological sequelae that occur following bacterial infections. Outside of the lab, I enjoy long distance running, traveling, pilates, and being outdoors!
