I completed my degree in Biochemistry at Birmingham University before undertaking my PhD in the laboratory of Rhona Mirsky and Kristjan Jessen at UCL. My work there was focused on the role of transcription factors in the Schwann cell response to peripheral nerve injury. In particular looking at the way in which they regulate the plasticity of this cell. My present research focusses on the role of complement and microglia in the pathogenesis of Huntington’s diseases. I am using a range of molecular, cell biology and behavioural assays to determine whether inappropriate activation of microglia and the complement cascade leads to abberant synaptic pruning and subsequently disease progression.
