Luis González

Luis earned his B.Sc. in Biotechnology Engineering from the Tecnológico de Monterrey, Mexico, supported by the “Líderes del Mañana” full-ride scholarship. During this time, he received the MITACS Globalink Research Scholarship to conduct research in the Mizumoto Lab at the University of British Columbia, Canada, where he studied how genetic mutations associated with bipolar disorder and schizophrenia affect neuronal development and synapse formation using the C. elegans model system.
After graduating, Luis joined the Cox Lab at the Ann Romney Center for Neurologic Diseases, where he studied the gut-brain axis in the context of neuroimmunology, with a focus on Parkinson’s disease, Alzheimer’s disease, and ALS. In May 2026, he joined the Stevens Lab as a Research Associate I, where he supports the stem cell team. Luis hopes to use his research to contribute to future treatments that improve patients’ quality of life. Outside the lab, he enjoys playing music, especially folk, jazz, and alternative rock, as well as playing Pokémon and chess.
