Sang-O earned his A.B. in Molecular and Cellular Biology at Harvard College in 2021 while studying the role of satellite glial cells in the pathophysiology of adrenomyeloneuropathy with Dr. Florian Eichler. He then completed his MPhil in Biological Sciences (Stem Cell Biology) at the University of Cambridge with Professor David Rowitch, exploring the biology of oligodendrocyte differentiation as well as establishing cellular and animal models for Pelizaeus-Merzbacher Disease. In 2022, Sang-O returned to Harvard to begin his MD-PhD training (MD: Pathways curriculum; PhD: Biological and Biomedical Sciences), during which he became interested in pursuing either internal medicine or neurology as future clinical specialties. Since joining the Stevens Lab in 2025, Sang-O has begun exploring the role of brain macrophages in various neurodegenerative contexts and stressors. Sang-O’s ultimate goal is to tackle questions with clear translatable implications for patients in the future.
